Queen Máxima visits the RadboudUMC and learns about holmium technology

28 January 2021 – NIJMEGEN – Today Her Majesty the Queen Máxima paid a virtual working visit to the RadboudUMC. During the visit, she focused in particular on healthcare innovation, and she spoke with researchers and medical experts from the Medical Innovation and Technology expert Center (MITeC). The MITeC is an innovative surgery center that combines patient care, scientific research and high-quality technology.

Queen Máxima opened three innovative operating theaters in Radboudumc’s MITeC in November 2015. Today she returned to see how these operating rooms are being used to improve patient treatments. Frank Nijsen, Associate Professor at RadboudUMC and CSO at Quirem Medical, presented his groundbreaking research in which the MITeC is used to optimally tailor treatment with QuiremSpheres® to the patient. One of the first patients that was treated in such way lived longer and in better health, in what the patient called “extra time given.”
